Description
Although my strawberry paintings are proving extremely popular, I only make a few each year as they take a long time to create--a real labour of love. They are each unique, relying on fresh strawberries and my own photography for imagery. This particular painting uses shallow depth of field photography, which means that some of the strawberries are deliberately out of focus so that you can see the full detail of the central ones.
I enjoy working with these macro-versions of food as they allow me to experiment with translucent layers of oil paint, creating a more realistic and juicy finished product. The photograph here does well capturing the arresting red colour of the berries, but when you see it in person, they really 'pop'.
It is stamped in wax with the Bruce family seal on the reverse.
